I walked around the museum except Yours Truly is last.

Fun or Funny Fri Foto ~ Polygon City Quilt Class

I'm attending a 2 part quilt class at the local quilt shop.

We are making the Polygon City quilt from the Stripology Squared book.

The class fee included the ruler which is definitely an upgrade from the fringe/strip ruler I already had.

The model quilt was made by our teacher Patty.
I'm only making the child size quilt which might become a "Linus" quilt.
It's being made from my Florida finds.

Thoughtful Thinking Thursday #87~ Not Little Pink House ..... And Its Pink Dogwood

In our town is a cute pink house.

I've always admired these historic houses that are on a street I travel often.

But, not until last week when the Dogwoods were in full bloom here did I notice it had a MATCHING tree!
OR, did the tree have a matching house?

A pink blooming Dogwood tree in front of a pink house.
Beautiful.
****
Then I thought:
What would it be like if all houses matched their trees?
Then most of us would live in green houses?

*******
Think about it.

Wordless Wednesday 213 ~ Dogwood Winter

Usually after Easter, it stays warm.
This past week was very warm with the highest temperature getting up to 87!
Then last Sat brought rain and very cool weather.
We didn't ever make it over 53 on Sunday and the morning
got down to 42 which means you just had to turn on that heat.
Many around here call a cool snap when the Dogwoods are in full bloom,
Dogwood Winter.

We've got Blackberry Winter to come.  That, I think is usually in May around here.
This neighborhood Dogwood was really showing off
when the sun popped out late Saturday afternoon.
Note the VERY blue sky peeking through the blooms.

Perfect Narrow Topstitching: How To

Recently I impressed even myself with some narrow top stitching on some handles for a bag I made.  As a carpenter would say, "It's easy when you have the right tool!"

Tuesday Teaser
******************
Not a detailed tutorial but just enough to tease your brain with an idea.

  • First cut your handles the length you desired and the width plus 1/2 inch.
  • Press in half lengthwise and unfold (hotdog style).
  • Press in 1/4 inch on each side length wise (hotdog style)  I like for one edge to fold a couple of millimeters less.
  • Again, press along previously pressed half fold with the 1/4 inch sides tucked in.
I used what is actually called an Edge Joining Foot from my set of machine pressure feet.  (See the charts over at New Toys ~ New Feet for more info.)  As you can see I let the blade ride along the folded edge which sits on top of the other edge by about a millimeter. I manage how the edges sit on each other as the fabric goes under the foot.  The needle is slightly repositioned to the left.

This foot will work very accurately for an edge top stitching
for as wide as your needle will move to the left or right.
I think it does a very beautiful job.
